For a long time I’ve been wanting to run a campaign that somehow captured the feeling of Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the 1960s, like The Herculoids or Space Ghost, etc. but nothing ever seemed to click.
Then I found Dungeon Crawl Classics and Hanna-Barbera’s Golden Age fits perfectly with the themes and tones from Appendix N. So here’s the map I drew for the campaign, which will begin once my current 5th D&D game ends. Hopefully, Mutant Crawl Classics will be available by then.
Additionally, you may notice that I threw in a bit of Metamorphosis Alpha into the map with a derelict generation ship in outer orbit. This map kind of has everything I could want. One planet, “Urd” on the labeled map, has long been left a wasteland by nuclear war and is honeycombed with underground caverns, tunnels, and vaults–somewhat inspired by Jason Sholtis’s Operation Unfathomable campaign. There’s also a Barsoom/Purple Planet planet, a veiled Pulp-Venus, a rogue planet that froze solid in the gulf between stars and is now caught in orbit around a gas giant. And there’s a planetoid with a foetid and loathsome case of a yeast infection or slime mold.
